More variation in restaurant food….I really miss BBQ ribs when I am in Grand Bahama. Also, a good Mexican restaurant with tacos and Burritos would be welcome. There are no Starbuck’s here, and no good dollar stores. There is a $ 2 store (everything is twice as expensive on an island) but it doesn’t have any of the usual necessities you would find at Dollar Tree or Dollar Plus. And finally, there are no fresh bakeries, like a Panera, to give you that yeasty, crusty fix.

Are you aware that it is expensive to do business in Freeport? The electricity is not regulated and their exorbitant rates have caused a number of establishment to close their doors. You have to pay duty on everything you import and sell. You need a Bahamian partner for your business if you are not Bahamian yourself.

I’ve run out of space. If you want more info, please post!

What Caribbean island would be good fit for my vacation?

Question by ***~***: What Caribbean island would be good fit for my vacation?
I’m looking to try a new Caribbean island this year. I’ve been to St. Maarten, Puerto Plata, and Grand Bahama Island. I didn’t like PP or GBI but loved St. Maarten. I felt a whole lot safer there. Where can I go that is not ridiculously expensive (like St. Barth’s or something), I can rent a car and drive around, and has beautiful beaches? My vacations usually consist of beach hopping, snorkeling, scuba, exploring, and visiting casual restaurants/bars. Any suggestions? I’m thinking maybe St. Croix or Aruba?

I lived in Aruba for 15 months and loved the island. As long as you aren’t going around any holiday time. Any of the holidays the locals are wild. On the beaches all night and loud music and drinking. The rest of the year the island is paradise. I must say though that New years on the island is gorgeous despite the all night noise. The entire island is covered with fireworks at midnight. Amazing!
I did love the beaches. I lived right across the street from Eagle beach. And the restaurant, Chalet Suisse, is great. I had the penthouse there. What I particularly liked was the variety on the island. If you want dunes and quiet, take a walk at the north end of the island early in the morning. For lots of nightlife go to Oranjestad or south. There are beautiful public beaches. Eagle beach is one of the nicest; there is Baby beach and for snorkling just pull off at one of the smaller beaches on your way to the dunes. Or go to the natural pool on the desert side of the island. There is also horseback riding and four wheeling. Lots of ethnic restaurants. And up by the high rise hotels you will find lots of bars/restaurants for night life too. Highly recommend Aruba for a vacation.

Which cruise would you rather go on? Bahamas Vs. Eastern Caribbean?

Question by Diane: Which cruise would you rather go on? Bahamas Vs. Eastern Caribbean?
And WHY based on where it stops and what you know about the cruiseline/ship. (i’m not going to write any of that additional information)

Cruise #1: MSC Cruises – Orchestra
-Cayo Levantado(Samana), Dominican Republic
-Phillipsburg, St. Maarten
-St. John’s, Antigua
-Nassau, Bahamas

Cruise #2: Norwegian Cruiseline – Norwegian Majesty
-Nassau, Bahamas
-Freeport, Grand Bahama Island
-Great stirrup Cap, Bahamas
-Port Canaveral, Florida

These both depart in March 2009 and I need a bit of help deciding which one I would like to go on! Pros/Cons would be nice along with your opinion!

Thankyou! :] I appreciate all of your help!

Definitely the first.

We sailed on the MSC Lirica in 2005, on a longer Eastern Caribbean cruise. We hit Puerto Rico, St Maartens, St Lucia, Grenada, Antigua, Tortola, and then Nassau as the last stop. Nassau was nice, but I’d pass up the other Bahamian sites any day for a chance to go to those other places.

Question by Casey: I’m going to Grand Bahama Island next week and was wondering how I would get from there to Nassau for a day?
Is there some kind of plane or ferry that and if so, is it far away? Anybody know of anything that we should do while we’re there? We’ll be there 8 days and we’re staying in Freeport.

Should be a ferry that can take you. We are going in two months. Let me know how you like it.
